TIPS TO HELP CHOOSE THE PERFECT MOTHER OF BRIDE OUTFIT

So it may be some time since your Daughters Engagement and you thought you had lots of time to choose your Mother of Bride Outfit..... But now you are panicking!!

Fear not..... here are some tips to help you navigate this (can be ) tricky adventure!!

Before you head out to the Shops, I would recommend that you have a good idea about what your daughter wants for her wedding.
Considerations would be :

  • Where the Wedding is .... Grand Church Wedding or Civil Ceremony
  • How large the Wedding is
  • Is the Wedding a grand affair or more subdued
  • Is there a theme for the wedding such as colour
  • It's also good to have an idea what the Mother of the Groom will be wearing
Once you have established some basic considerations, its now all about your outfit!
Choosing your outfit:
1. Choose your dress/outfit first
  • When doing this make sure that you choose an outfit that is your personal style (if you don't like the 'traditional' look, then don't go for that
  • Choose something that is comfortable
  • Don't set unrealistic goals to lose weight in the time given
  • Dress to suit your body type
  • Choose a quality outfit (within your budget) but don't sacrifice the quality of the Outfit
  • Aim for elegance, we all like to channel our inner sex goddess but this is not the time for that
  • Get some ideas from the Internet or magazines

2.  Choose your shoes & bag
  • Make sure you get your shoes in plenty of time so that you can wear them around the house if you need to wear them in
  • You may want to coordinate your shoes with your outfit (depending on the colour chosen) but don't be afraid to contrast you shoes and bag

Mother of Bride Hats
3.  Choose your Hat or Headpiece
  • You can either match your Hat to your outfit or your shoes & bag
  • Choose your Hat that balances your silhouette (it's not just about colour - see my previous blog about face shapes)
  • If you would like to have a bespoke hat made, you may need to allow a little more time
  • It's a good idea to go to an actual hat shop or outfitters that deal with wedding outfits, as they will be able to guide you better than department stores

These are just a few tips to break down the process..... I hope you find them useful!

Love Hats Millinery
I have always loved hats and was lucky enough to live my teenage years and early 20's (In London in retail fashion) in the 80's when 'anything went' and I experimented with lots of different headwear. But my millinery journey started in 1996 when I first worked at 'Hats on Top' in Princes Quay, Hull and where I first trained 'on the job' in millinery, helping many lovely ladies choose their headwear for their event. (Which I loved!!) In between I trained as a Beauty Therapist which I did very sucessfully for many years whilst creating 'one off' Headpieces for Hats on Top in Harrogate. I started working for myself in 2012 and once again pursued my love of Fashion and Millinery, which is when LOVE HATS MILLINERY was born.
